LEARNING CURVE

I’m the new Marketing Manager of White Label Development and it’s the first time in my career that I’ve been working on a website from its conception to its implementation. Coming from an offline marketing background, I’ve been used to creative agencies working mainly on print design and did not foresee the technical constraints that would come out of designing for the web.

Here are some of the key learning from this recent experience:

• Make sure the graphic designer is using a software that matches the web developers’ software
• Do not spend too much time providing marketing explanations for the technical tasks allocated to web developers: geeks are obsessed about technical results and less about the marketing reasons behind
• Be ingenious: marketing requirements do not match SEO requirements
• Work even harder to get the team members’ attention on internal projects.

I’m the first to agree that our clients’ projects are our priorities; I will however fight even harder to get our internal projects on the top of the priority list, as I will not succeed without my colleagues’ technical expertise on this internet marketing journey.

This has been a great learning curve for the whole team. I’m already excited about the next website end to end project I will handle although I know there will be new difficulties to overcome. Expertise is developed from experience.

The White Label Development website is not yet meeting my expectations, but it was about time to take it live. New sections will be added, the design will be polished, but in the meantime, I look forward to receive constructive feedbacks from my marketer peers. Is this a marketer particularity never to be satisfied with our work as my Managing Director tends to believe or is it more one of my personality traits? By the way, I’m also new at blogging so your tips on how to write good blogs are also more than welcomed.
